Ruth and Richard Tischler

Ruth and Richard Tischler were married for almost 70 years before Ruth passed away from Alzheimer's. Richard grew up in a tenement. After declining a scholarship to Harvard (because he couldn't afford not to work), Richard attended The City College of New York at night and worked during the day to support his family. Work and family were his only priorities. He earned his accounting degree in 1940 and started an accounting practice shortly thereafter. He later started in health care seeing Medicare and Medicaid on the horizon. With Ruth's support, Richard built a chain of nursing homes. His upbringing, depression-era mentality and focus upon family shaped his business philosophy. When Ruth became sick at 89 years old, the closely-knit family (including Richard, their children and grandchildren) confronted the dilemma of where she should live and began searching for the perfect senior living residence. As her health condition progressed, she required services ranging from Independent to Assisted Living to Memory Care. Inspired by this personal experience and building upon our family's values, principles and generations of experience, Bloom Senior Living shifted its focus to the same Lifestyle Options Ruth required. We saw what was out there and wanted to do things better. Richard was still involved in daily operations, until he passed away in 2016 at 101 years old, making sure each community is the premier option for senior living and the values and traditions he created - nearly 50 years ago - are carried forward with his wife's memory in mind. With a lifetime of experience in senior care that began in 1965 and has been carried forward through 3 generations, Richard was committed to providing an environment our parents and grandparents would be proud to live in.
Mitchell A. Kantor
Principal, Chief Executive Officer
Mitchell oversees Bloom Senior Living strategic initiatives and all health care investments. He has spent the past 35 years developing, acquiring and managing health care properties. Mitchell continues to own and manage 10 independent and assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing facilities totaling over 1,200 beds throughout the United States. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Michigan State University. Mitchell previously served multiple terms as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Jewish Home and Aging Services, and remains on the Finance Committee of Jewish Senior Living of Detroit. He was formerly a member of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit and served in various capacities on other aging related committees. Mitchell is a member of the California Association of Health Facilities, Arizona Health Care Association, Ohio Assisted Living Association, Assisted Living Federation of America, South Carolina Assisted Living Federation of America, Indiana Assisted Living Association, American Seniors Housing Association and National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry.
Howard M. Dubin
Howard oversees the Bloom Senior Living risk management department and all health care investments. He was previously the President of his own insurance brokerage agency and Vice President of a national agency. His clients included seniors housing providers, real estate investment trusts and real estate developers. Over the past 35 years, Howard has been a seasoned entrepreneur investing in numerous health care properties, commercial and residential real estate ventures and operating businesses throughout the United States. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, and attended Aetna Casualty and Surety Insurance School. Howard is a licensed Insurance Counselor in the State of Michigan. He is a member, and former board member, of various charitable organizations. Howard is a member of the American Seniors Housing Association and National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry.
Bradley E. Dubin
Principal, Director of Acquisitionsand General Counsel
Brad is responsible for originating and acquiring new senior living communities. He also oversees legal matters for all Bloom Senior Living communities. Prior to Bloom Senior Living, Brad oversaw portfolio acquisitions for a Michigan / Florida based commercial real estate investment group, and worked with boutique Wall Street and premier national law firms in New York City. Brad attended the University of Michigan. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He is a member of the Ohio Assisted Living Association, South Carolina Assisted Living Federation of America, Indiana Assisted Living Association, Assisted Living Federation of America and National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry. Brad serves on the Executive Board of the American Seniors Housing Association, and was recently elected to the Executive Committee (of the Executive Board). He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association and International Council of Shopping Centers. Brad is a supporter of the Seniors Housing Political Action Committee (SH PAC) and the Alzheimer's Association.
Principal, Director of Finance
Tony is responsible for financial matters of all Bloom Senior Living communities including balance sheet management, raising capital and preparing monthly statements. Prior to Bloom Senior Living, Tony worked in commercial real estate for a Michigan based investment group and a New York City private bank. Tony earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Masters of Science in Finance from Walsh College. Tony is a member of the Ohio Assisted Living Association, South Carolina Assisted Living Federation of America, Indiana Assisted Living Association, Assisted Living Federation of America, America Seniors Housing Association and National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry.
Scott M. Kantor
Principal, Director of Operations
Scott is responsible for overseeing daily operations of all Bloom Senior Living communities, as well as, achieving resident and associate satisfaction consistent with Bloom's mission. Prior to Bloom Senior Living, Scott was a Seniors Housing Specialist for a Real Estate Investment Services firm in Chicago. Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hartford. Scott has completed various Executive Education programs including Management & Operations and Development of Senior Housing from the Erickson School. Scott is a member of the Ohio Assisted Living Association, South Carolina Assisted Living Federation of America, Indiana Assisted Living Association, Assisted Living Federation of America, America Seniors Housing Association and National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry.
Director of Education and Development
Melissa is the Director of Education and Development responsible for the training, development and growth of Bloom associates consistent with the Company's mission, core values and cultural initiatives, clinical standards, policies and procedures, State regulations and customer service guidelines. Bloom's mission is to enable residents to continue living full lives, by enjoying their favorite activities while discovering new ones, and blooming into their best selves through learning, growth and discovery. But this is not just limited to our residents. By creating an environment that fosters self-growth and self-actualization for others under Melissa’s leadership, Bloom associates reap those same benefits — ten-fold. Before being promoted to Director of Education and Development and consistent with Bloom's philosophy of organic growth, Melissa served as Bloom at Lakewood's Executive Director and was responsible for near perfect customer and associate satisfaction, non-existent associate turnover and occupancy of 98%. Prior to joining Bloom, Melissa enjoyed 24 years in skilled nursing serving as Executive Director of a variety of communities. She specialized in associate stabilization, census growth and customer satisfaction. Melissa is a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in long term healthcare management and a minor in gerontology. She is licensed in Ohio and South Carolina.
James Kesler, HFA
Area Director of Operations
James is the Area Director of Operations responsible for overseeing daily operations and providing support to Bloom's Indiana communities, ensuring high quality care and services are provided to residents and achieving high resident satisfaction. Before being promoted to Area Director of Operations, he was previously Bloom at Eagle Creek's Executive Director. Like the Bloom owners who were inspired after experiencing the challenge of finding the right home for their grandmother when she began suffering from Alzheimer's, there is a touching personal story behind James' passion for senior care and he shares Bloom's vision and core values. Before joining Bloom, James worked for national providers as the Executive Director and Director of Admissions and Marketing for Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing communities in Indiana. Before becoming a licensed Health Facility Administrator, James ran his own commercial production company specializing in corporate and large-scale entertainment (for clients such as the Indianapolis, Colts, Harrah's Casino, Wonka Candies and Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association); and worked in the beverage and automotive industries. He is also a professional magician. James attended Indiana State University and is working towards his Master's Degree in Arts at University of Indianapolis.
Area Director of Professional Services
Jeff is the Area Director of Professional Services responsible for sales, marketing and maintaining relationships with our local health care professionals in the Southeast. He works closely with area professionals educating them about Bloom's innovative care and services and works as a hospital and physician liaison between Bloom and the communities. Before being promoted to Area Director of Professional Services, Jeff was the Director of Professional Services for Bloom at Lakewood. Jeff has been in the health care space for over a decade. Prior to Bloom, Jeff started his career as a Concierge, Admissions Assistant, Admissions Marketing Director and ultimately Admissions Director at various skilled nursing and rehabiliation facilities before becoming Director of Public Relations and Hospital Liaison. He grew up and attended school in Ohio.
Lisa is responsible for assisting Bloom management with various administrative functions . Prior to Bloom Senior Living, Lisa worked at Aspen Valley Hospital as a registered nurse. Lisa earned her Nursing Degree from the University of Michigan.
Elizabeth is responsible for assisting Bloom management with various administrative functions. Prior to Bloom Senior Living, Lizzie worked in journalism, media relations and advertising sales for several national companies. Lizzie earned her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University.
